PHILANTHROPY

The Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation centers its philanthropic efforts around the theme "Sigma Serves Children," specifically through the Robbie Page Memorial. Established following the 1951 death of the son of the sorority's National president, RPM supported various polio projects including the Salk vaccine trials. Long range programming to develop and support play therapy for hospitalized children began at North Carolina Memorial Hospital.

Play therapy, an alternative method of healing for children facing serious illnesses, focuses on the emotional and developmental needs of hospitalized children. By focusing on the emotional and developmental needs of the children, funds raised by collegiate and alumnae chapters were used not only to establish playrooms, but to create a specialized field of study for professionals in child development and associated health-care.

Every year, members of Alpha Xi support Robbie Page Memorial in various ways. During the Spring and Fall semesters, members can be seen "Rockin' for Robbie" at different locations around campus. Members sit in rocking chairs and collect donations from passing traffic. Other ways we show support are through an annual Dance-a-Thon and Fashion Show.
