Forensics Camp At UW-Whitewater!
Forensics camp is a week long camp held here at UW-Whitewater. High school students stay in the dorms for a week and develop material that they can use in the upcoming year for competition. The UW-W Forensics Team provides capable student assistance (and assistants!) to help with the creation of quality pieces. Many of our students have gone on to win awards in competition.
Could this possibly be the origins of the door decorating contest??? One activity many campers look forward to every year is the annual door decorating contest. There are some basic stipulations, but otherwise, creativity can run wild! Last year was the first year we had actual tangible awards, fittingly shaped like doors.
Campers have the opportunity to meet other forensics students from other schools all over Wisconsin and make lasting friendships.
In addition to everything else, there is the chance to go swimming at the campus pool every night. On Wednesday, the whole camp (those who want to go) travels to Whitewater's very own Aquatic Center, with lap lanes, kiddie pool, hot tub, and indoor waterslide! Thursday brings the Talent Show- when campers can show off a talent. Past presentations have included dance routines, singing, past forensics pieces, playing an instrument, and much, much more.
At the end of the week, there is a final presentation. Campers perform their newly created pieces; many of these have been polished very well for only one week of work! (Some have even been memorized, which is something certain campers have taken upon themselves- we DO NOT require that! That would be sadistic...) :-)
