Greetings Everyone!
This is Shauna Lee from the forensics team. I'm working as an
assistant to Emmitt as Member Liaison. Alright, gang, since I'm just the
substitute, let's not play any funny tricks on me...I know what it's
like to get that urge when you have a substitute teacher...let's hope that
this does not apply to substitute forensics liaisons:) This is just kind
of a temporary thing since Emmitt has been really busy with play practice.
So, to catch you all up to speed with the details, here's a newsletter.
First of all, I would like to extend a very sincere congratulations to
both Heather Dow and Carlie Forsythe on their participation in the Winona
Tournament last weekend. Carlie tore up the circuit on her first time
out, taking a 3rd in Dramatic Interp! Way to go ladies! While my
excitement at this news is optimal...I am totally out of my element!
I was just interrupted so my thoughts are totally disjointed now. I just had to
tell a random student that Jeanine does not have office hours on Friday so
to all of you out there just waiting to run down on a Friday afternoon to
Jeanine's office, she's not here! Don't come looking for her...or me:)
Anyway, there will be a meeting held next Wednesday in Room 112 in
Heide Hall. However, don't be afraid to look around Heide in the event that
we are not in Room 112...some people don't understand the meaning of
"Room Reservation." E-board will meet at 6pm, general members at 6:30, and
at 7pm there will be a practice session for all members. Even if you
only have a fragment of a piece to show, please come and down and show it
off!
For all of those of you who are new to the team and signed up at the
Org. Fair and have not yet responded to the team, you need to do so by Nov.
1! If you do not, your name will be removed from this list and you
will fail to recieve further updates. So, if you're interested, please
respond to me, Jeanine, the team e-mail, etc. (Our office is in Heide 113 A.)
Well, that does it from me...gee, no little tricks have been played
since the commencement of this letter...I'm kind of disappointed in you
guys:) Take care everybody. Have a great weekend! Hope to hear from
you soon and see you Wednesday!
Your Substitute Member Liaison,
Shauna
11/1/2003
Hi Everyone:)
Once again this is Substitute Member Liaison Shauna here with your
forensics newsletter. Hope all are well and that you received my last message
two weeks ago. I've had several reports, however, that my message did not
get through to everyone so I'm going to recap the most important
information right now which is this:
*******You need to respond to us if you are interested in being on the
team and have not contacted anyone about it yet!!!!! For those of you who
signed up on the sheet at the Organization Fair in September and have not
talked to anyone yet, you need to do so. If you do not, we will remove your
name from our mailing list! So, if you don't want to be left out of this
opportunity of a lifetime, (can you tell I love forensics?:), then you need to
respond to us by November 15th, either by calling, e-mailing, showing up at a
meeting, or by coming to the forensics office in Heide Hall (across
from Room 114...I'm not certain of the office's room number) and talking to
our coach, Jeanine Fassl.***********
So, now that I have your attention, you may be wondering, when is the
next meeting? Well, dear friends, our next meeting is to be held this
coming Wednesday, Nov. 5th in Heide Hall Room 114. There will be an e-board
meeting at 6pm, a general member meeting at 6:30pm, and an optional
practice session afterward. The practice session is a great opportunity to
polish those pieces, get some feed-back in a casual atmosphere and have those
burning questions floating in your minds answered. If you are
uncertain as to the category that you wish to compete in, this is a marvelous way
to identify what you like and dislike about certain events. And of
course, feel free to ask any questions you may have!!!
As for office business, everything appears to be going well. Plus,
there is a new improvement just outside the office to the bulletin board.
President Mike and I rearranged some of the presented material and attempted to
make it more aesthetically pleasing by rejuvenating it with some new
construction paper. So please stop by and check it out. We're open to comments
and suggestions. Also, if you are a new member or a member seeking info
for a friend, please feel free to take an informational pamphlet from the
cool new pamphlet holder that Mike made and I helped decorate. I only offerd
my help, I might add, after making certain that I wasn't destroying any
artistic visions he may have and his witty response was, "It wasn't
really an artistic vision; it was more of a work of necessity." So, come
make that work of necessity...a work of promise and help us positively promote
the forensics team!:)
As for occurrences beyond the office, there have been two meets that
our team has attended this year already. Heather and Carlie both attended
Winona, MN three weeks ago and Carlie received a 3rd ranking in her
category, for all of those of you who have not yet heard. Congrats,
once again Carlie:)
Then last weekend, four team members: Carlie, Sam, Jason, and Mike
went with coach Benny Belvin and Carlie's dog, Boscoe, down to Wartburg, IA to
compete. Although no one broke into the final round, it sounds to me
as though everyone had a very good time, at least judging by the "quotes"
that were recorded. First of all, I think I must explain that a lot of
time was spent with the five of these people and one dog in the car because not
only is Iowa kind of a long way, but the team got lost also:)
Apparently, the directions were none too good for there were quotes
such as:
"Stay on 3 West? Are you sure?" ~anonyous
"I'm way ahead of you. I'm going in the ditch." ~Benny
"Maybe highways are dirt roads in Iowa." ~Mike
"I did go straight; it was the road that turned." ~Carlie
Well, even when they're lost, forensicators still know how to have
fun. For instance, they do a lot of forgetting about their woes by listening to
the radio and discussing music:
"They may not be as big as the Doors, but they can't be as fat as Jim Morrisson." ~Jason
And when no one knows what song it is, why not turn to the President:
"Mike, what song is this?" ~Everyone except Mike
Of course, when all else fails, forensicsators still know how to sit
back, roll with the punches, and just be silly:
"LLCool J- Ladies love cool Jason-he makes the ladies say 'OW!'" ~Benny
After all, as Boscoe the dog assures us, "With the exception of my underwear
being wet, it should be a pretty good day."
And that's what I'm wishing all of you...a pretty good day...not wet
underwear:) I love you all. Please, take care of yourselves and
bundle up when you walk to class because now is cold and flu season and I have
been informed that some members of the team have been pretty darn sick.
And remember, if you do get sick, don't hesitate to go down to the health
center for as Mike says, "Where else could you get drugs for twenty bucks?"
Where else, indeed?
Well, gang, I've gotta run. Take care and hope to hear from you all
soon. Please remember to respond to us so you don't get taken off the
mailing list if you're interested in becoming a member of this fine organization,
come to the meeting this Wednesday, and grab a few informational pamphlets to
share with your friends. Talk to you all soon. Bye, Bye!:)
Your loving Substitute Member Liaison,
Shauna
Sun, 07 Dec 2003
Hi Everybody,
This is forensics assistant Member Liaison Shauna with your weekly
newsletter. Please remember everyone that there is a Holiday party quickly
approaching. Secretary Jessica asked me to write the following:
"It is time once again for our annual Holiday party; it will be held
Wed. Dec. 10th at the dwelling of our dear coach, Jeanine Fassl. 'Buses'
will be leaving the parking lot in front of Heide Hall at 6:45pm. The party
will start at 7pm. Be sure to dress nicely, this is an extra-special event!
The night will include dinner, socializing, celebrations, a game of Encore,
and our annual White Elephant Exchange. (For those unfamiliar with White
Elephant, it is where you bring a gift to pass. The gift can be
something you already own and it can't cost more than $5 if you buy it new. This
gift should be for someone of either sex; it can't be half-eaten or dirty
underpants...you get the idea.) Please R.S.V.P. by Tuesday. We hope
to see everyone there! Also, e-mail Jessica at ravendarkblade@hotmail.com if
you need a ride or have other questions."
Everyone is also being asked to bring a dish to pass. Here's what is
being brought and needs bringing. Of course, if you have other dish ideas,
that's fine too.
Soda-Amber
Veggies-Shauna and Mike
Dessert-Jessica-cookies
Garlic Bread-Shauna and Mike
Chips and dip-Heather
Cups, plates, plastic ware-Jeanine
Main Course-Jeanine-either lasagna or mostaccoli
ice-?
other dessert-?
Aside from the Christmas party, we also have other news. Our team
(Jessica, Amber, Heather and I) competed at UW-Stout this past weekend. Although
no one broke into the final rounds, we had a lot of fun with our assistant
coach Benny. In proof of that, I kept a "quotes page" and am going to
post some of them here as opposed to working them all into the letter for
there were far too many...maybe we just had too much fun:) For a complete
list, either see me or Mike b/c we're hopefully going to try to start a
website for the quotes. So, here goes:
"How can you guys pee off the house?" ~Amber
"Call it a water dispensing unit, not a bubbler." ~Observer Nando
"So, you're going to be a Buendist monk?" ~Heather
"Are you comforting the desk...or are you trying to comfort me?" ~Jessica
"I don't want children...I want monsters." ~Amber
"Yeah, it was time to throw that bad boy away. I mean, when you get a chia growing in your purse, it's time to get rid of it." ~Benny referring to Heather's old applesauce
"When making assertions, you don't say, 'I believe blaa, blaa, blaa...' you just say, 'blaa, blaa, blaa..." ~Shauna
"If everyone shows up in the last 5 minutes, the person with the biggest bill wins. I'm starting with a $20...Daddy's gotta put food on his table too." ~4n6 judge David Tschida
"Hey, Benny...I finally chose a major...pirating. I wanna be a pirate when I grow up." ~Heather
"I am woman, hear me roar!" ~Benny
"We don't wanna see you dance again, that means we've gotta clap again." ~Benny
"I think we need fantasy forensics...it'd be like fantasy football..." ~Heather
Yes, everyone, we're some pretty goofy cats, but we know how to enjoy
ourselves:) So please come join us for the Holiday party. We hope to
see everyone there and if you can't be there, we all wish you a very happy
holiday season. Take care.
Oh, and disregard anything you hear about a meeting during finals
week...there isn't one! So, study hard, but don't forget to take care
of yourselves and have a little fun:)
With bestest wishes:),
Shauna
Tue, 16 Dec 2003
Hi Everybody!
I just want to extend a very big congratulations and lots of cheer to
everyone: cheer that the holidays are so quickly approaching and
congratulations that we all lived through another semester!:) Happy
Holidays everyone! Even at a time when things are just wrapping up,
there is still forensics business to attend to.
First, I would like to remind all e-board members to e-mail their
write-ups for the website to Mike over the break b/c he is planning extensive
renovations for it. Please include whatever you want to say about
yourself, your position and forensics in general. As Mike says, he will "keep everyone apprised"
on the website situation. As for the goals, please keep those and turn
them in at the next meeting. Although we know it will be sometime after break,
we're not certain of the date. Don't worry! I'll keep everyone
up-to-speed with that info!
Next, we have some important top-secret info...we're planning on buying
a gift for Jeanine in celebration of the holidays...however, we were not
able to collaborate with everyone to achieve this. Thus, when we return, we
plan on collecting money ($3/person) to buy her something as a combination
post-holiday, thanx-for-being-our-coach, welcome-back-from-break gift.
Please give your money to Jessica at our next meeting. However, do not
do so while Jeanine is in the room! Remember, this is top-secret! Think
drug deal here, people! Not that I condone drug deals or anything...:)
Seriously, have a great Winter Break! Please keep in touch with me if
you desire! If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to
channel them to the correct sources...of course, if it's something like,
"what's the meaning of life..." it might take me a little longer; those connections
are a little more difficult to make, but if I'm determined enough...:)
Take care everyone and have a very safe and happy holiday. Enjoy your time
off:)
With a lot o' holiday cheer,
Shauna
Thu, 18 Dec 2003
Hi Everyone,
Yeah, I know, you guys just can't get enough of me...or I just can't
get enough of you and that's why I'm e-mailing you even though I'm sitting
at home right now in my warm fuzzy bathrobe thinking about how nice it is
that I don't have to see all of you...I mean see UW-W for a month:)
Seriously, I love you guys and I can't wait to see you again, hence the reason I'm
e-mailing you. Plus, I've got some news. So here goes:
We will be having our first meeting of the New Year on Wed. Jan. 21st.
E-board will meet at 6:15 in the office and a general member meeting
will follow at 6:45 in a room to be determined. Basically look around the
rooms in Heide 113.
Next order of business is that there is a tournament at Bradley on Jan.
24th which is our first weekend back in school. Please plan on seeing our
coaches and practice lots during break.
Along those same lines, is the Sorber tournament on the weekend of February 28th. I know that sounds
like a long way off since we're all just awaiting the holidays, but we host
Sorber so please leave a little free-time in your schedule. We will be
needing help around this time of the year and before this weekend as
well. It would be really nice to have a little help from everyone so no one
person gets stuck doing everything! If you have questions concerning this,
please contact either Mike, Jessica, Amber or me.
As for our final announcement, it is a holiday invitation extended to
everyone by our teammate Sam and her husband concerning a New Years Eve
party. Sam is hosting a party at her house on Dec. 31st at 8pm. She
asks that you RSVP by Dec. 27th by calling 262-903-1133. As k for
directions when you call her. Furthermore, she states,
"If you are drinking, please have a designated driver or plan on
staying the night. If you are allergic to animals we will have allergy medicine
and a 'de-animaled' place to sleep."
Well, that's it from me. Have a great holiday season and see you in
the New Year!
Lots of 4n6 love,
Shauna

Greetings Forensicators!
It's Member Liaison Shauna here with your weekly newsletter. Hope
everyone had a good first week back and that no one is suffering from too much
stress. Well, I have a lot of announcements to make so please stick
with me...it's gonna be a long one!
First of all, at our meeting last Wednesday, we learned that our new
computer will be arriving this coming week. Yay!!!!!!!!
E-board members, please remember to post your hours in the office.
General members, I will get these hours out to you as soon as I know when
everyone is working in case you want to meet with anyone regarding your piece or
anything else.
There may be a tournament that we will attend on Feb. 6th and 7th for
novices (first and second year members only) in IL. If you are
interested, please contact Mike or me or stop in at the office to tell Jeanine.
Another tournament concern is on the first weekend in March, we have
the option of traveling to Ohio, Texas, or Nebraska. (Texas is only for
first-year competitors. Thus, if you choose this option, know that
only a set number of our team would qualify.) Furthermore, some of you may
have received info concerning the National tournament. It was supposed to
be held in Providence, RI, but has been moved to a city in the midwest.
We've yet to be told exactly where.
Another important thing to keep in mind is that we still need help with
the tournament we are organizing for February 28th...the Leap Year Swing.
We need volunteers to serve on different committees so please sign up in
the forensics office (Heide 113). Around this time, we may have weekly
meetings as opposed to every other week. Remember, we need you! (Imagine me
looking like Uncle Sam here, people:)
Anyway, the last announcement from the meeting is concerning
adjudication certification. If you have ever considered being a high school
forensics judge, now is your chance! On Tuesday, Feb. 10th, from 4pm-8pm, there
will be a judging workshop in Heide Room 105! Please stop by the office to
pick up a registration form if you are interested.
Finally, I will conclude this letter with a little humor. This past
weekend, we traveled to Peoria, IL to compete in a MAFL at Bradley.
While no one broke into finals, we sure did have an awful lot of fun as I'm
certain the following quotes will depict. Of course, whenever you travel, it has to snow or be unpleasant in some
way. Friday night was no exception as we had a good deal of snow.
Accrding to Jeanine, Illinois hasn't "seen snow all summer." Hmmm...I wonder why:)
And what would Illinois be without its infamous tollways? Jessica
shared with us one of her experiences with tolls. "When you run out of money,
you don't have to pay tolls anymore. We tried to give them a $100 bill,
but they gave it back and let us go." I think I'm gonna try that one next
time:) How can you get through a forensics trip without falling asleep in the
car? I haven't figured that one out yet. At one point, I recall hearing
Jessica say she was going to poke Shauna to wake her. In my groggy state I
remember thinking, "But wait...I'm Shauna!" That certainly woke me up!
Heather gave us all the d.l. on fashion. (She was excited over her new
dress pants.) "You can do so many things in them, but you don't have
to do anything to be in them." Interesting.... She is also quoted as
saying, "I'm reverse stripping." Then there was me deciding what to wear. My
shirt was a little too low cut for my taste. Thus, as I explained, "I looked
like a whore so I went with no." Aren't you pleased to receive the style
report?:)
Naturally, when you travel a distance, you will need to refuel. Jeanine
asked us as we passed a gas station, "You know what BP stands for?
British Petroleum...we're being invaded." President Mike informed us, "This
time, it's not by the Beatles!"
Driving in IL is pretty interesting. Mike instructs us that, "you have
to use your horn and your blinker." I am told that we need to welcome a new team member. His name is
Frank. Frank enjoys wearing ties. Frank is, well, a pizza box. Come noon, at
the tournament, Frank's life was in rather grave danger as Heather
announced, "If nothing else, we'll just eat our new team member. Frank was really
good last night." I hate to think what eavesdroppers might imagine goes on
in the hotel rooms of the UW-Whitewater forensics team:)
Of course, I know what goes on, but if you're new to the team, and
you've not had the opportunity to experience it for yourself, I recommend
coming along sometime. Seriously, forensics is a great time! The people you
meet along the way are awesome. Thus, I encourage all of you who receive
this message who have not contacted our team yet to do so. If you do not, I
will be removing your name from our list.
With all of that said, have a great week everyone! Take care of
yourselves and don't stress. If you have questions about anything, comments on
this letter, suggestions for improvement, need directions to the office,
just need a helping hand, are in desperate desire to see a smiling face or
have some other problem not previously mentioned, just drop me a line. I'm
always here for you:) And please take into account that, "there's nothing wrong with
cannabalism if it's done in the right place." (courtesy of Jessica) Yep, we're a
loving bunch of people; we support cannibals too:)
Warm Wishes,
~Shauna
Thu, 5 Feb 2004
Hi Everybody,
Well, this is your Member Liaison paging all
forensicators.....*beep*....are you all tuned in now? I sure hope so b/c I've got lots of
important info for everyone.
First of all, the new member meeting that I mentioned the other night
will not be taking place on Feb. 10th b/c that is the judge training
day! Sorry for the confusion. It will be rescheduled...please continue
thinking of buddies who might be interested in the team, though!
As for reports from the meeting last night: elections for the executive
board will begin in March so start thinking of who you want to nominate
for which positions, the web site is continually being updated (if you
have any ideas, contact Mike), our new computer arrived, and there will
be a Showcase exhibiting everyone's talents in April, sometime before
the National Competition.
Speaking of Nationals, the new location where
they will be held is Illinois, for anyone who may be wondering.
Furthermore, everyone needs to collaborate on a decision concerning a
tournament that is to be the first weekend in March (5-6). We need to
decide if we would like to go to Nebraska, Ohio, or choose not to go.
Here are a few deciding factors:
1. we'd have to leave early Fri. morning b/c both places take about 8
hours to drive to
2. we could choose to fly...then someone needs to look into arranging
transportation to and from the airport, as well as purchasing plane
tickets
3. it is a Swing tournament which means that if we do drive, we
wouldn't get home until early Monday morning
4. the Nebraska tournament is free
5. great opportunity to spend lots of quality time together
There will be a high school judge certification workshop next Tuesday,
Feb. 10th in Heide Room 105 from 4-7. If you've not yet contacted
Jeanine and are interested, it's not too late to sign up. Just remember
that there is a $30 fee that must be paid to attend!
Another matter weighing heavily on everyone's minds is that Sorber is
quickly approaching (Feb. 28-29). (Sorber is the tournament that we
host.) Due to this, we will begin having committee meetings right after
the general member meetings which are every Wednesday at 6:45 in Heide
Room 112 this month! Please attend these meetings so that our
tournament runs smoothly and no one person gets stuck doing all the work!
Meetings remind me of something else....fun and friends....what goes
along well with fun and friends....why, food of course! Yep, that's
right...we are instituting a new practice this semester....at every
forensics meeting there will be food! So come to the meetings: eat, speak and
be heard....what could be better?!:)
Well, that's all from me. Hope everyone is well and that all are
feeling great anticipation for these exciting upcoming events! Take care
and keep speaking....eventually, you have to be heard:) For as Jessica
tells us, "We have trouble controlling ourselves when speaking
publicly." Mike suggested that she was referring to a condition called
"tourettes," but I think her quote really embodies all of the excitement she
feels for this great organization....or maybe she just has tourettes:)
just kidding! Bye, bye everyone!
~Shauna
Tue, 17 Feb 2004
Hello Forensicators:)
This is your Member Liaison speaking....or, um, writing:) Just taking
a few minutes out of the busy day to send you all greetings and
salutations, as well as update you to what is going on this week in the life
of the forensics team.
Remember that tomorrow there is another forensics meeting at 6:15 for
e-board and at 6:45 for general members. Also, nominations for e-board
open this week. Thus, be thinking about who you want to nominate! We
still need lots of help with Sorber which is quickly approaching so we
are asking that everyone be willing to stay after the general member
meeting to work as committees on your specific assignments. Furthermore,
there will be some yummy food (I've not been informed as to the menu
yet, but come to find out:) so that should motivate us to work our
best!:)
As for the Love Fest in Eau Claire this past weekend, those of us who
went had a great time. Carlie won a 4th place in DI so that was
extremely exciting! All in all, it was great to be together and celebrate our
love for forensics and our friendship. And naturally, we had some very
"special" moments, 66 of them, in fact:) (And those are only the
recorded ones...yep, that's right, we walked away from Eau Claire with 66
quotes! That's got to be a record!) I obviously can't post all of them
here, but I will forward them to Mike so he can put them in the
archives on our web site. But here are a selected few:
"Where's your better half? Did that come out wrong? I mean...your other half." ~Benny
"It's ok, Bosco, even I get stuck sometimes." ~Benny
"They're always mutating to get you!" ~Amber
"We fought hard for this AppleBees!" ~Benny
"You always wanted to be real." ~Carlie
"Our turkey blew up!" ~Amber
"Cats, especially large ones, are the embodiment of sex!" ~Heather
"I woke up with his nose in my mouth." ~Heather
"I was in the basement with 2 guys, but I knew it was my hair ahead of time!" ~Heather
"It's not like I'm going to hang a pair of pants on Amber's head." ~Shauna
"There was this big bird in here and it molted all over Carley." ~Amber
"Heather, keep your hair to yourself and button your buttons." ~Carlie
"We should all just wear suits that match Bosco." ~Amber
"I told people to unbotton their coats whenever you're around, Shauna." ~Benny
"Great, now people are going to start stripping in rounds b/c they're going to think I'm into that stuff." ~Shauna
"Shauna, you'll fix 'em good cuz now, you're C4!" ~Heather
"They may take our shoes, but they'll never take our freedom!" ~Heather and Amber in unison
"It's nice having your own room, a bigger bed, and a steady supply of ice cream." ~Heather
"You've got calico hair." ~Carlie
"I've not heard of anyone winding up with a child by chocolate." ~Carlie
"See, if you can see the ankles, then you knew a woman had legs...and legs lead to other things." ~Heather
I think the best testament to what it is that we do came from another
forensics coach at the tournament. Penni said, "you guys have too much
fun; it should be illegal." Yeah, that's what we're about...having
fun, not being illegal:) So, see you all tomorrow night and keep having
fun!
~Shauna
Sun, 22 Feb 2004
Hello Everyone!
It's another great week for forensicating! This week is Sorber week so
please be prepared to help out with preparations. If any of you are
available on Tuesday from about noon to 5, please come by the office to
assist with call-in...that's where teams call in to say they'll be
coming so you have to answer the phone.
Also, of importance is the fact that there is a meeting on Wednesday at 6:15 for e-board and 6:45 for
general members. Aside from completing Sorber business, the issue of
nominations is also now one of our primary foci...I do believe that's plural
for "focuses.":)
Thus far, Mike has been nominated for President,
Heather is nominated for Vice President, Brian is nominated to be the
Treasurer, and I have been nominated to continue at my Member Liaison post.
We are still in need of secretary nominations. So please come to the
meeting or e-mail nominations for any position.
I guess the last order of business for this letter would be the State
tournament that we attended this past weekend at Stout. Two of our team
members, Mike and Carley, broke into finals, which was very exciting.
Mike placed 6th in POI and Carley received a 4th in DI. A hearty
congratulations is extended to both of them! Natuarally, we had a great time
and while Carley and Mike were busy breaking into finals, all of us
were busy breaking our quotes record from last time...in 1 day of
togetherness we recorded 72 quotes!
Here are some of the highlights:
"If you say anything good, let me know." ~Shauna
"There was some good amination." ~Mike
"What, you're picking out a church?" ~Heather
"What, Shauna's starting a church?" ~Amber
"Shauna's preaching might be ok." ~Heather
"Four legs...is that like 4 wheel drive?" ~Heather
"It was like NASA technology in your shirt." ~Amber
"Pico de gallo: pureed rooster." ~Mike
"Spike it with what? Oh, spike it with that!" ~Carlie
"This cake speaks to me...are my teeth and gums worthy of biting down on it?" ~Benny
"Silly pectoral muscles!" ~Heather
"I heard silly picture of molasses!" ~Carlie
"I didn't have a sock so I drew one!" ~Amber
"I'd give you mouth to mouth even if you weren't drowning." ~Mike
"What did you do tonight? Oh, we planned a wedding. Not a real wedding; a mock wedding." ~Amber
"Let's not think anymore; we get good ideas that way." ~Amber
"Yes! A warm, breathing body!" ~Shauna
"I don't think people actually look stupid; you have to prove your stupidity!" ~Amber
"Hello, brain, are you in there?" ~Amber
"It looks like Bosco exploded! I've exploded dogs before!" ~Heather
"No, don't feel me." ~Shauna
"I wasn't drunk! I was just happy!" ~Benny
"He's curled up on the floor: Bosco, not Mike." ~Shauna
"They opened the Great Hall to make it greater." ~Heather
"She's telepathic, but likes to forget." ~Almuni, Joe
"It's skin o' clock!" ~Benny
"We have to find Amber a pole, quick." ~Heather
"This is where it gets incestuous." ~Coach Kelli Jo
"Your jacket is detrimental to my face." ~Shauna
"He's a former alumni." ~Mike
Hope that brought a few laughs. Well, that's all for now, guys. Take
care and rest up. We've got a big week ahead of us. Just remember,
we're in this together and I love you all.

Sorber Week: 2-25-04
Hello Everyone!
It's another great week for forensicating! This week is Sorber week so please be prepared to help out with preparations. If any of you are available on Tuesday from about noon to 5, please come by the office to assist with call-in...that's where teams call in to say they'll be coming so you have to answer the phone.
Also, of importance is the fact that there is a meeting on Wednesday at 6:15 for e-board and 6:45 for general members. Aside from completing Sorber business, the issue of nominations is also now one of our primary foci...I do believe that's plural for "focuses.":)
Thus far, Mike has been nominated for President, Heather is nominated for Vice President, Brian is nominated to be the Treasurer, and I have been nominated to continue at my Member Liaison post. We are still in need of secretary nominations. So please come to the meeting or e-mail nominations for any position.
I guess the last order of business for this letter would be the State tournament that we attended this past weekend at Stout. Two of our team members, Mike and Carley, broke into finals which was very exciting. Mike placed 6th in POI and Carley received a 4th in DI. A hearty congratulations is extended to both of them! Natuarally, we had a great time and while Carley and Mike were busy breaking into finals, all of us were busy breaking our quotes record from last time...in 1 day of togetherness we recorded 72 quotes!
Here are some of the highlights:
"If you say anything good, let me know." ~Shauna
"There was some good amination." ~Mike
"What, you're picking out a church?" ~Heather
"What, Shauna's starting a church?" ~Amber
"Shauna's preaching might be ok." ~Heather
"Four legs...is that like 4 wheel drive?" ~Heather
"It was like NASA technology in your shirt." ~Amber
"Pico de gallo: pureed rooster." ~Mike
"Spike it with what? Oh, spike it with that!" ~Carley
"This cake speaks to me...are my teeth and gums worthy of biting down on it?" ~Benny
"Silly pectoral muscles!" ~Heather
"I heard silly picture of molasses!" ~Carley
Take care and rest up. We've got a big week ahead of us. Just remember, we're in this together and I love you all.

Good morning, afternoon, evening, (whatever time it is) Forensics
Team!!!!!!!!
Hi Everybody. Just here to say hi and give a run-down of this past
week's forensics meeting. Of course, we want to extend a great big thank you to everyone who
helped at Sorber. It was definitely successful and we really appreciate
everyone's assistance!
Now that Sorber is finished, we need to start considering our
participation in the Showcase, an event which is to take place on April 20th at
around 5:30 hopefully at the Fern Young Terrace. (This is not written
in stone yet, but I just wanted to let everyone know that if everything
goes as planned, this should be how it works out.) This will take
place during the week known as Art Week, an event that celebrates the fine
arts in Whitewater. So come on down to the office to sign up to
deliver your speech or give us a call at 472-5259.
Just so that everyone knows, for the remainder of the year, meetings
will take place at 6:15 for everyone...not just e-board! There will not
be a 6:45 general member meeting!!!!!!!!!!! All general members should
attend the 6:15 instead. Also, food will not be served at the meetings
for the rest of the year.
Another important announcement to note is that the close of nominations
has been postponed until March 30, 2004. So if you're considering
running for an office, it's not too late to sign up!
Well, that's all I really have for you this time around. Although,
Michael and I did have a bit of wisdom to share. We were talking about
lies the other day and we discovered that there are so many other kinds
of lies than those which immediately come to mind...there are little
white lies, big fat lies, trivialize, utilize, materialize, and
monopolize...
We decided that trivialize are lies that are about various amounts of
information that aren't all that important.
Whereas utilize are multipurpose lies.
Materialize are those you tell concerning things you own.
And monopolize are lies you tell when playing monopoly.
And the moral of the story...don't tell lies! I think that was the
moral or maybe it is that laughter is the best medicine and that's the
other reason I'm sending you all this letter...to make you smile. At
least, I hope you all smile and get that warm fuzzy feeling when you see a
letter from me in your inbox. (That one was for you, Brian:)
Oh, and here are a few other gems that came up while in the office...such a place of inspiration it is:)
"What language is that? Yiddish?" ~Jeanine
"Ghetto." ~Amber
"The French are really Americans in disguise; they just don't know it
yet." ~Brian
Well, I love you all and hope this brought the warm fuzzies:) Bye for
now!
~Shauna

Greetings Everyone!!!!!!!!!!
Today officially begins a new regime for the forensics team, meaning that we had our Crossing Over meeting last night and our new officers are officially installed. Mike Wessely is our president once again, Heather Dowe is our new vice president, Jen Spector is our secretary, Brian McGee will remain our treasurer, Jessica Gleason will serve in a new board position deemed member at large, and I will continue as the member liaison. We're most certainly looking forward to next year's season, although this one just finished. Numerous forensicators are already beginning to seek out and write new pieces for next year. Way to go, team! Keep the enthusiasm and just keep building! We had a great season this year and I know I'm really looking forward to next year!
I consider the people in this organization to be amongst my closest friends and I can't wait for next year to extend the invitation to others to join us!
While we are already looking forward to next year, please know that we still have a little business left this year.
For instance, there will be a New Member meeting tomorrow at 6pm...come to Heide 113 A, our office, to begin the journey to increasing membership! If you have any friends interested, please bring them along!
Also, next Monday at 3:30 we will be meeting in the office to take a field trip to Wal-Mart and perhaps Culvers:) to pick up office supplies for next year. So, come on down to help us stock the office!
We still need everyone to let us know when they can and cannot make meetings so we can choose a day and time for our weekly forensics meetings next year.
As for stuff to remember for the future:
1. Michael requests that everyone interested in having personal sites linked to our webpage, send them to him!
2. Web archives should be loaded by next year. However, we still need alumni assistance to fill the alumni pages. If you have information for Michael, please send it to him at snipes54228@yahoo.com.
3. forensics camp will take place this summer from August 1-6 for high school students, just so you all know.
4. and of course, the greatest thing you should remember is that I love you all and it has been such a pleasure to work with everyone. I wish you all a fantastic summer and hope to see you all next year! Until then, I'll be missing you!
Best Wishes to Everyone!
Member Liaison,
Shauna Lee
Hi Everyone!
This is Member Liaison Shauna from the Forensics Team! Just sending out this message to update you all on what's going on...after all, that's my job...gasp! I'm doing my job! What's wrong with me...why would I want to be a good kid and follow the rules?!:) Because I'm me...that's why:)
Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know that we don't have to paint the board or color it anymore...thanks to Sam's dedication, she took care of that this morning. Way to go Sam!:)
For those of you who didn't attend the meeting last night, here's what's going on in the near future:
1. There will be 2 new member meetings run by Secretary Jen. One on Mon. Sept. 20th at 5:15 and one on Thurs. Sept. 23rd at 5:15. If you're thinking to yourself, I'm already a member, who cares? Here's the answer: bring new people to the meeting! Round up those interesting new folks you met in your hall, in your classes, at other club meetings, in the library, and under your bed...I don't know if you've ever met new people under your bed, but there are tons just waiting to be discovered under mine...at least, that's what I think the dust bunnies have been trying to tell me:) Oh, and if you can't make both meetings, don't worry...the same things will be discussed at each meeting.
2. The Org Fair will take place on Wed, Sept 15th from 11-2pm. If you want to sign up to sit at our booth, we could use the help! Just come down to the office (Heide 114) to sign up!
3. We have a literary magazine on-campus called the Muse. Currently, the staff are seeking this year's submissions. If you are a budding writer, please consider submitting any of your works (as many as you want) to musesubmissions@yahoo.com.
Finally, here is the schedule for this semester:
Oct. 2-3: MAFL Chicago Swing
Oct. 8-9: Winona?
Oct.15-17: MN River MSU/Mankato/Gustavus Adolphus Swing
Oct. 23: MAFL Wartburg, IA
Nov. 20-21: ISU/Bradley Swing
Dec. 3-4: UW-Stout
Hope that helps everyone out. I guess I should be signing off now. Love to all. Hope school is treating you well. And remember, if you have questions, feel free to ask them!
With forensicating affection,
Shauna:)
10/5/04
Hi All!
Well, this is UW-W Forensics Team Member Liaison Shauna speaking...and this is my first BIG newsletter of the year!:) I mean it's different from the others in that this time, it's going out to all alumni as well. So, how is everything going out there in the real world?:) Everything here is pretty A-ok...actually, it's better than that! Team morale is soaring and our new members are really stepping up to the...I don't know...what do you step up to in forenics? The challenge...you step up to the challenge:)
First of all, I would like to let everyone know what's been going on lately. Basically, we've just been recruiting new members for the team, having meetings concerning how to spend our money, and we did have our first tournament this past weekend. For anyone who missed the meetings last week (obviously, this doesn't apply to alumni), we just talked about topics that people might be interested in exploring in their speeches and we just answered a few questions about competitions. As for the tournament, it was a blast! We traveled down to DaKalb, IL with Mike Wessely and Jessica Gleason driving...they're pretty crazy, but we managed to get there and back without running tooooo many things over:) I'm sure you'll understand some of the quotes that accompany this letter better if you imagine how "interesting" driving can be when you don't know where you're going or you're not used to driving a mini-van. Anyway, the trip was enhanced by 3 new team members coming along to observe...and I think they still want to compete...we didn't scare them off:) They've got to be hardy souls if they'll put up with our driving:) Unfortunately, Sam, Jessica, Mike and I did not break into finals, but I think we had some very valuable experiences and we all had fun....after all, isn't that what forensics is really about?
Sooooooo......here's the moment you've all been waiting for...Shauna's crazy quotes! Enjoy!
*"What's all the swerving?" ~Ben
"I'm gonna die!" ~Jessica
*"If we get lost, I'm pretty sure I can find us." ~Jessica
"Finding us is not the problem." ~Sam
*"I feel so....unsupervised." ~Sam (this was our first tournament without a coach coming with us)
*"Did you just say, 'I hope we hit a cop?'" ~Sam
*"Are you going to merge into the shoulder?" ~Sam
*"Oh boy, we've got farms comin' up here!" ~Mike, referring to a tractor
"I didn't know farms moved like that!" ~Sam
"What did you learn on your forensics trip, children? Farms are big green things with wheels that drive around on back roads!" ~Jessica
*"Oh, there's a Ruby Tuby's." ~Sam referring to Ruby Tuesdays
*"Ooooo...I just love the feel of cobblestones!" ~Jessica
*"There's a reason your car is smashed!" ~Jessica to a crazy driver
*"Do you need any more numbers so you can push some more damn buttons?" ~Sam
*"Save it for forensics!" ~my mom via phone, on her stand on the f-word
*"What is that blue light I just saw over the hill?" ~Sam
"K-mart?" ~Jessica
*"God bless our....rail road tracks?" ~Shauna and Ben in unison
*"I wish I was a guitar." ~Jessica
"And then Doug could play you." ~Sam
"Wait a minute...Doug does play me...I might as well be a guitar!" ~Jessica
*"Just shake your boobies at it." ~Sam on how to get a stubborn gas pump to work
*"Boobies make the world go round!" ~Ben
*"Your boots remind me of being trapped in a leather shop!" ~one of Jessica's judge's ballots
*"A swimming suit is not business attire so I'm going to wear one." ~Jessica
"I'm going to wear my birthday suit!" ~Ben
"Then you could paint 'BUSINESS' across your chest." ~Mike
*"If you want to be eccentric, be eccentric like me...get a puke yellow suit." ~Sam
Well, folks, that's about it for now. All in all, it was a great trip and this looks like the start of a great season. If anyone is getting this message and they don't feel they should be, or they want to be taken off this list, let me know.
Furthermore, there will be a meeting next Wednesday, Oct. 13th at 5 for e-board and 5:30 for general members in Room 114. At that meeting, we will be discussing what our goals are for this year. (E-board, please have your reports done for then.) By goals, I mean that I think we need to start to assess our work a little bit differently depending on what we decide our focus may be...at times, it feels as though we are wasting our talent at some of the tournaments...if we chose pieces that the judges would look at more favorably, we might do better. Of course, winning isn't everything and I don't ever want it to be said that that's all I care about, b/c it's not...I think we have more fun than any team out there...but I've been thinking and I've noticed a little discontent at the lack of our team's success in terms of awards. I think we are capable and I believe I have a strategy that will make us more noticed on the college circuit...if you want to hear about it, please come to next week's meeting. If you don't want to hear about it, come anyway and....I don't know...stick Swedish fish in your ears and hum:) As always, I look forward to seeing everyone. Hope all are well and that I hear back from the alumni. For the record, Sonny DeGuzman was with us on our last trip as a judge and he said he's interested in getting something together for the alumni...maybe have part of our forensics webpage, which can be accessed through the school website, dedicated solely to alumni. Please contact him at sonman98@yahoo.com, if you're interested.
I love you all and as Sam says, "I'm gonna roll down my whistle and window at the cop!" Whatever that means:) Happy cop windowing to all!
~Shauna

Hi Everybody!
Just a quick reminder that we have a meeting this Wednesday, Oct. 27th at 6:00pm in Heide Room 114. After the meeting, we are going to the DU for dinner and then we're going to the SUFAC meeting to defend our position on why we need money to spend:) If you plan on attending the SUFAC meeting, please dress in business attire!!!!!!!!!!! Here's a question: do you all want to do any more forensics socials soon? Dierdre had a few ideas: going to see "Shall we dance?" or going to Elegant Farmer for apple cider and other yummy treats:) Sam also proposed going to a Bush/Kerry maze. It has also been brought to my attention that we should have a birthday party for everyone sometime in November...we'll celebrate everybody's birthday. Well, that's about it from me. Have a great week and hope to see you Wednesday!:) Love you all!
~Shauna
11/4/2004
Hi Everybody!
Well, this is the new updated member list. Should someone complain to you that they are not on their list and should be (thus, I don't mean the happy guy down the hall who complains about everything when he parties a little too hard on Thursday nights), please just let me know and I'll reinstate them on my list...the legit members, not the drunk guys:)
Hope everybody is having a beautiful Thursday....and remember....tomorrow is Friday, tomorrow is Friday!!!!!!! Yes, I have always gotten excited about Fridays b/c they meant freedom...a very temporary sort of freedom from the books, but freedom none the less. Plus, when I was a little kid, my aunt and uncle used to take me for "adventures" on Fridays....alright, enough walking down memory lane. Let's get down to business!
There will be a meeting next week on Wednesday at 5:30 for general members in Heide 114. Also, we're having an Un-Birthday Party next Thursday at 7pm. Basically, we're celebrating the fact that it is none of our birthdays...celebrating everyone's birthday on the actual day just gets too confusing! So, there will be a bake-a-thon at my apartment. I live on Tratt Street in Fox Meadow Apartments. To get to my apartment, just walk down Starin Rd. When you get to a dead end because Tratt St. intersects it, you just walk right across the grassy lot and my apartment is #105. (I'm the only one with a screen door on the first floor...unfortunately, the apt. numbers are not posted on the outside. If you come in the building, they are posted...then you don't have to look for a screen door, just the happy 105 on the door:) If you drive to my place the directions you follow will be different b/c of the location of the parking lot. Thus, you will have to turn onto Carriage Lane...a road off of Tratt Street. It only goes to the right, should you be driving from the north. Anyway, it's this snaky little road and you follow the winding path until that dead ends. The parking lot for my apartment complex is on the right on Fraternity Lane. Turn in there and you'll see lots of cars...make sure you go right up to the dead end which is Fraternity Lane, otherwise you'll be in my neighbor's parking lot...which is not Fox Meadows! Once you're in the lot, go in the small door at the east end of the parking lot. You can go in the main doors with the hangover roof, but then you have to wander around inside the building which is kind of like a maze. (Should you do this by accident, take a right in the hall and then another right after you pass the laundry room.) My address is 291 N. Fraternity Ln., which is written on the Fox Meadows building. Call me if you get lost! (262-308-2350)
Now that that is established, it is important that we cover one last thing...many of you are signed up to go to the tournament this next weekend (Nov. 20th.) However, to go, you must be approved by Jeanine by this coming Wednesday if you want to compete. If you do not schedule an appointment with her, you cannot be approved, which means you cannot compete! We need to know ASAP who is eligible to go so Heather, the President of Vice, can make a reservation for transportation!!!!!!!
Well, that's about it from me. Hope all are well and that you have a safe Thursday night. See you all next week:)
Love to all,
Shauna

Greetings Everybody!
First of all, there is NO forensics meeting this week on Wednesday. I know you all want to go home, eat lots of Turkey (or whatever you do for Thanksgiving) and get a little rest in:) I will not stand in your way, nor will anyone else on the team. So go home, have fun and celebrate Turkey Day!:)
Next thing, I think we owe a great big Congratulations to Carlie Forsythe and Dierdre Springer, both of whom broke into Finals this past weekend. Carlie broke in Poetry at ISU and Dierdre broke in Persuasion at Bradley, receiving 7th and 6th respectively. Way to go ladies! I must say, however, it was so awesome to have to take 2 vans down to Illinois this time around...we had 7 competing members, 1 observer, and 1 Sonny DeGuzman serving as our advisor!:) Thanks, Sonny, we had a blast:)
Well, I think that's about it. Hope everybody has a very Happy Thanksgiving and remember, I love you all!:)
Member Liaison,
Shauna Lee
P.S. Sonny is still interested in hearing from all of you alumni concerning your memories, etc of forensics. You can e-mail him at sonman98@hotmail.com.
12/13/2004
Hey Guys!
Just so you know, there will be a last-minute meeting this Wednesday, Dec. 15th at 5:30...there will not be a separate E-board meeting! Granted, we understand that this is a study day/exam day, but we thought it would be necessary to discuss the events that are to come next semester, like Sorber.
Just so you know, we're not totally heartless, cruel beings...it will be a pizza party:) After all, everyone needs a study break so to lure you all here, we figured it would be good to have food. Here's a question...why don't good and food make the same sound?
Anywho, the President of Vice aka Heather wants me to tell you that if you want to attend the MAFL at Eau Claire on January, you need to e-mail her!!!!!!!! You cannot take new events either, unless you go see Jeanine this week!!!!!!!! (What I mean is that if you've been approved in the past with a particular piece, you can take that, but nothing new.)
Well, that's about it. Take care, study hard and don't forget...always take time to forensicate:)

Hi everyone (E-BOARD THIS MEANS YOU TOO!!!!),
Alumni can skip this section:
----------------------------------------
this is your forensics president. I have the sanction of Member Liaison Shauna to type you a few words this evening. First and most importantly, I need to know what days and times are good and which are bad for meetings next semester. Please respond either to the forensics account or my personal account at snipes54228@yahoo.com by TUESDAY, DECEMBER 21. At that time, I will be leaving campus until I return on the 3rd. I plan to set up meeting times on that Tuesday. Thus, if you do not respond, I cannot take your schedule into consideration. I try my best to find a time that works for mostly everyone.
If you commute, I understand your difficulties, but then please let me know times that will work for you (for example- if you don't plan on attending a 7pm meeting even if it would fit your schedule, then don't say that 7pm meetings will work for you please-)
-----------------------------------------
Alumni can start reading -and the rest of you better keep reading!!! :-)
A Holiday Note:
I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holidays. I hope you all do well with the rest of your exams and drive home safely. I also wanted to let you all know that I am so proud and excited for what our team has accomplished so far this year. We've had several people win awards and an amazing amount of involvement on the part of everyone this semester. Let's keep this going and have to take a large van, two vans, or hey- even both to our tournaments next semester. Let's make it so we have to take a bus to Pi Kap AND NFA Nationals (if things work out financially)! Next semester will be my last semester working with the team, as my eligibility will be used up and I'm hoping it will be the best one yet! Keep it going everyone!!!
A Holiday Song (THE SURPRISE!):
On one recent forensics trip at roughly one in the morning, with the help of our fellow forensicator Alumni Sonny, we created a holiday song: (clears throat)
On the first day of forensics, my coach gave to me....
A Pi Kappa Delta Key
On the second day of forensics, my coach gave to me....
Two black books
On the third day of forensics, my coach gave to me....
Three bad ballots
On the fourth day of forensics, my coach gave to me....
Four hours in a van
On the fifth day of forensics, my coach gave to me....
Five visual aids
On the sixth day of forensics, my coach gave to me....
Six double beds
On the seventh day of forensics, my coach gave to me....
Seven slot entries
On the eighth day of forensics, my coach gave to me....
Eight schematics
On the ninth day of forensics, my coach gave to me....
Nine bucks for dinner
On the tenth day of forensics, my coach gave to me....
Ten black book pages
On the eleventh day of forensics, my coach gave to me....
Eleven source citations
And on the twelfth day of forensics, my coach gave to me....
Twelve hours of coaching!!!
I hope you all were singing along... or at least reading along....
Happy Holidays!
President Mike
P.S. Alumni please send me any info about yourselves you would like on the team web page- examples: photos, personal webpage links, summaries about life, forensics experience, or simply general ramblings.
P.S. #2
Team members please remember to email me good and bad days and times for meetings before next Tuesday. This is VERY IMPORTANT!
Thanks!

Guess what, folks?
There's a forensics meeting tomorrow in Heide Hall at 5:00pm for E-board and 5:30 for general members. I guess that means I should say a couple of things...
1. Hope everybody had a great break
2. Sorry for such a late response
3. Please come...especially those of you who are attending the tournament this weekend...which reminds me, those of us who are competing need to see Jeanine to practice!
4. If you plan to go to Nationals (Pi Kap), you need to have competed in 3 tournaments, taken and passed the exam, paid your one time $40 due to Pi Kap and paid Jeanine your $50 deposit to go on the trip!!!!!!!
Well, I think everything else we can say tomorrow. Love you all lots and just remember..."Tomorrow, Tomorrow, I love ya, Tomorrow. You're only a day away:)" (Quote from Annie...I think you all would know that, but just in case, I figured I'd better site it b/c otherwise I might get accused of plagarism and then I'd get brought before the University, and then I'd get thrown in jail, and then Brian McGee would have to attempt to bail me out b/c he promised me he would since he's like a dad to me, and when that didn't work, you'd all be out a Member Liaison...and then where would we be?:) BYE!!!!!:)
~Shauna
2/3/2005
Greetings All!
This is an update from forensics headquarters.
1. There is a forensics/french club Mardi Gras party in Arey basement next Tuesday, Feb. 8th at 6pm. If you have signed up to make/bring a food item, do not forget or I have permission to...to...to do something nasty to you. I don't know what that is yet, seeing as I'm not generally a very nasty person, but I promise to think up something creative:) If you have questions, please contact french club president Samantha Balmes at: bergsc22@uww.edu.
2. You must get t-shirt $ to Jen ASAP or else we can't get the t-shirts! I cannot ok a Storm-the-Sassy-Shirts-Store committee if we have not held up our end of the bargain...aka paid for the shirts:) If we're going to storm the place for not having our order to us in a timely manner, we must first prove they have all of our money!
3. People on Sorber committees, you must have your act together by February 15th, which means whatever you have decided to help with must be prepared by that day so you can present it to Jeanine for approval.
4. I'll be sending you all the Mentor Program info shortly! Which, I should also add, should contribute to us practicing together more. It has been brought to my attention, that it may be more helpful if we had more team practices so we could get more feedback on our pieces. After all, a lot of us have reworked or rewritten pieces over the break. I know I'd sure like to hear everyone's and I would like to get your feedback on mine. Since we have so many people on the team, I don't know as that it's feasible to have a full team practice anymore where everyone listens to everyone else's stuff. I think having a couple mentors meet with a couple mentees would be a better idea: plus, that leaves less people's schedules to coordinate.
5. I feel like I'm forgetting something.
6. Oh yeah, don't forget to breath, stop by the office to help whenever possible, and ultimately, have fun:) I don't think as college kids we take as much time to have fun as we should.
That said, have a wonderful day and talk to you all soon.
Love ya all,
Shauna
P.S. This message is especially for Heather. I sent out another reminder to alumni telling them what date Sorber is and pleading for judges. Plus, I asked Louise if she'd want to judge. We'll see what she says. Hope this helps, hun:) ~S.L.
2/17/2005
Hola amigos,
This is your captain speaking...well, maybe not, but it sounded like a fun thing to say. And you know what? I was right. It is fun:)
So, I just want to recap what happened last night at the meeting.
1. You should all have gotten info about what's up for the State tournament tomorrow. If you didn't get Jeanine's message, let us know.
2. There's a practice night tonight at Jessie's at 7:30PM. I know that's later than what we previously said, but she lives above a business so we must respect the owner's wishes. Hope to see everyone there.
3. Everyone loves Jeanine! (It's a new tv sitcom...like Everybody Loves Raymond...ok, maybe not.) Anyway, since we all love her, she has been nominated to receive an Outstanding Advisor Award. Thus, we need to write down some of her admirable qualities and explain why we love her. So, Sam has kindly taken up this project and is requesting we all send her a sentence saying why we love her. (Ex. Jeanine Fassl truly loves forensics and interacting with students, which is emulated by all of the time that she dedicates to our team.) Sam- that's my response. Anyway, please send similar comments to Sam ASAP so she can compose an essay.
4. That's all that's really pressing for now, with the exception of Sorber. Please, please, please...work on your committees! We need stuff to fall into place for this. Thank you for all the help everyone has done so far.
That's about it. I love all you guys and I'm glad to call you friends:) With that thought in mind, I'm signing off.

Greetings and Salutations:)
For all of those of you who enjoy warm weather, this e-mail is for you:) Wanna know why? B/c it's gonna get hot this week...b/c it's Sorber Hell Week. Every good org needs a Hell Week at least once a year, this I have determined. It keeps all participants on their toes and should they not kill each other by the end of the week, it means that some very good bonding has probably occurred and you've probably made friends and memories that will last you a lifetime:) So, you all ready to make those kinds of memories? You better be b/c Sorber is now upon us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, now that that is out of my system, I've actually got some important announcements:)
1. If you have not yet determined what you're doing for your committee, you need to figure it out!!!! NOW!!!! If you are uncertain of something, please call the office, send an e-mail, see Jeanine, etc.
2. If you signed up for call-in, show up for the time you said you'd be here! If you're not here, Sparky the fire-breathing dragon will get you...aka me! (Yes, my nickname is Sparky...something about being a pyro, involves an iron, don't ask.)
3. If Heather or Jeanine asks you for help or they're running around the office like a chicken with their heads cut off, don't just watch offer your assistance. They both need our undivided attention this week so please step up to the plate and offer to help.
4. There is a Bake-a-thon at my apartment on Thursday at 7pm. I live in Fox Meadows, Apartment 105. If you don't know where that is, let me know. Please bring your own ingredients if you need something special to cook, or we can always organize a run to the grocery store, something we can discuss on Wednesday. Which reminds me...there will be a forensics meeting this Wednesday...5pm for e-board and 5:30 for general members.
Last, but not least, have fun. While this week will be stressful, try to remember that we do this in the name of fun. It's not required to be here, and everytime I think I'm going to tear my hair out, I just remember how lucky I am to know all of you. I mean, forensics is a big part of who I am and it has had a great impact on my life. That said, here's a hug for you all. Take care and if you have questions, drop me a line. Thanks a bunch:)
Always and Ever,
Shauna

Hola!
I guess there has been some misunderstanding regarding Pi Kap attire. Obviously, for the competitions you should wear business suits like always. However, when we attend the dinner banquet on Saturday night, it is appropriate to dress in something other than a business suit. Jeans are NOT allowed! However, if you want to go MORE FORMAL than your business attire (aka Prom dress, nice skirt and top (like what Dierdre wore last night!) or tuxedo) that IS appropriate and welcome. I understand that business suits are not the most flattering thing...in fact, I find them downright frumpy. Thus, should you decide you want to wear something else (please think appropriate and a little conservative...ie let's not have anything cut for J Lo or other celebs), go for it!
Also, Heather asked me to send you all a copy of the itinerary for Pi Kap. If you really want to know, please just come check in the office. Typing the entire thing in an e-mail is too time-consuming. And I can't find a copy either in our inbox or on the PKD website to attach to this e-mail. Sorry.
Thanks all. Great performance last night!:)
Much love,
Shauna

Greetings and Salutations!
Ain't it great to be back at school?! Well, maybe not, but at least I'm
back with you guys so that makes it all better:) Just a few quick
announcements.
1. There is no meeting tonight...despite what you all may have heard. We
considered it, and then decided against it. So, go use the time to have
fun outside...the weather has been gorgeous! Or, come visit me...I'll be
writing a paper at Michael's house...yes, that's what we call it nowadays:)
No, no...I'm just kidding:)
2. However, there is still some important team business we need to
address. Such as that we still need everyone to file a report from Sorber
saying what you did. (Nando and Kate, this means you guys too!) Anyone who
did anything is supposed to write down what they did so we know how to
better distribute jobs next year.
3. Also, this is a bit of my own personal agenda, but its still team
stuff. Well, Dierdre, Jessie, Michael and I are going down to Akron, Ohio
on April 13-19th for NFA. Before we go, however, I would really like to
have a team practice session so we can get more feedback. I mean, we gotta
bring our A game to Nationals!:) So please e-mail me back and tell me when
would be good for everyone. Jessie, could we have it at your house again?
Granted, not everyone has to come if they don't want to...it's strictly
voluntary...I just really value your opinions!
4. Nominations for officers close next week. Thus, if you are shy and
haven't volunteered for the position you want or haven't nominated that
someone you've been dying to nominate...please remember you're a
forensicator, which makes you fearless....which means send in your
nominations NOW! Just so everyone knows, I have officially pulled
Dierdre's name from the list at her request...I was not trying to exclude
her in any way.
I think that's it. Oh, one more thing, who has that sheet of paper with
info from St. Louis when we had our team meeting the last night where we
brainstormed ideas on how to make the team better? We've got some pretty
cool ideas and I definitely look forward to informing the rest of our team
about our schemes to increase membership, effectiveness, etc. So, whomever
has that sheet, please bring it with you for next meeting...which will be
next Wednesday, same time same place as always!
See you all around the office:)
With much forensics Love,
Shauna

Hey guys,
Just so all fellow forensicators remember, we are having our picnic on Friday, May 6th at noon in the picnic area behind Wells. We just need to clarify a few things...are there any vegetarians? If so, or if you have some other food request beside hot dogs and burgers, please let Jeanine know! Also, we need to determine who will go shopping for the meat and buns...more on that at the meeting on Wed., May 4th! So, please come so we can get everything settled.
Also, Kate, Heather, and I will be attending the Student Org meeting this coming Thursday at 6pm! So never fear, there'll be more forensicating next year:)
Other than that, not a whole lot going down. Please start talking to any profs you think would make good helpers/advisors next year and in future years. That would be much appreciated! Love goes out to all, especially to the stressed...I know many of you fit that category:)
~Shauna
P.S. The following message I thought would be interesting since some of us know Kelly Bender from Eau Claire! How cool to have somebody from WI perform so well:) That's all bye-bye!
Congratulations to the following District IV students who placed at
the 2005 Interstate Oratorical Association National Contest!
Shawn Klatt, St. Cloud State University: First Place
Kelly Bender, University of Wisconsin Eau Claire: Second Place
Kevin Tvrdy, University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Sixth Place
Sarah Hinrichs, Creighton University: Semi-Finalist

Hey guys,
There is a forensics meeting...this Wednesday, same time, same place as always:)
There's a few things I want from everyone...like a dollar...a dollar each would be great:) No, I'm just kidding. What I really want is for everyone to remember we have a meeting and to show up. And, if you're on the e-board, please have your end-of-the-year report ready. Also, EVERYBODY: please have a list of goals for next year. I know where I want to take the team, but I want to see what everyone else thinks too. After all, I'm the new president, not the new tyrant...(as much as I know you wanted me as tyrant Sam:)
Anywho, hope to see everyone on Wed. Love you all and keep on smiling, especially as finals quickly approach, I wish a little relaxation and a smile for you all:)
Sincerely,
Shauna

Well, this is it folks...this is your last e-mail from me before Ben Walker officially takes over as Member Liaison. However, if you still need info about the team, let me know and I'll attempt to provide a timely response via this e-mail account. (I'll be in Spain so I have limited computer access until July.)
Thanks for a great season. We had so many wonderful opportunities and I know that we'll have some great ones next year too.
An extra special "congratulations" goes out to Jeanine...she was awarded with the 2005 Advisor's Award by the university:) Also, congrats and good luck to Amber and Sam who are graduating this semester.
Sorry this is so short...I wrote you all a super nice e-mail, but it got deleted by our stupid system and I don't have time to redo it!!!!!!!! (If anyone wants to know what happened at the picnic or at the last meeting, let me know and I'll fill you in.) Anyway, best of wishes to everyone. Please have a safe and happy summer. I look forward to working with all of you again next year.
With much forensics love,
Shauna Lee
