House Facts

We own our own house, bought in 1974.

The historical house was built in 1876 by Kock who also built Milwaukee City Hall

The Hyer's, Esterly's, and the men of Phi Sigma Kappa had once lived in the house.

Originally built without a kitchen, food was brought from the carriage house (directly behind our house) to the warming room.

There once was a passage from the warming room to the dining room where servants carried food.

The back hallways are narrow to prevent servants from talking when passing.

The servants quarters used to be two rooms-notice the division on the ceiling and the two doors.

Small funerals were held in the gun room (library at one time) and large funerals took place in the Ballroom.

Notches in the hallways are used to turn caskets around the bend for funerals.
