Minutes
Last Meeting: September 29, 2003
Start Time - 5:15 P.M. UH 237
- Meetings
- It was decided that meetings would be held every other Monday evening
at 5:15 P.M. in Upham Hall Room 237.
- ACS
- Because our club is a recognized student affiliate of the American
Chemical Society (ACS), we need to have at least 6 members who are active
members of ACS as a student affiliate. The Cost is ~$19, and all are
encouraged to join but is not mandatory. You can apply for membership
at www.acs.org and as a member you recieve a copy of a magazine put out by
the ACS.
- Free Chemistry
Tutoring Service
Check
the website for current hours that we offer free tutoring\
- Guest Speaker
- Dr. Han is looking into co-hosting
an event with Tri Beta in which an alumni who is a Forensic Scientist for
the state of Illinois, would come and talk with
- students here. We need to
decide on a day for her to come and are awaiting news from Tri Beta.
- Getting Chemistry into the Schools
- Sign up for who is interested and
who wants to contact a school (preferably one that you attended or have connection
to). Please contact either Dr.
- Asala (asalak@uww.edu) or Ferg our
Secretary if you would like to participate or sign up at the next meeting.
We thought it would be best to do this
- over winter break while we are on
break but the younger students aren't.
Fundraising
We voted on whether
or not making and selling soap would be a good idea and the general consensus
was that it would be a good idea. Given that it is a
very Chemistry based idea we could make
it a lot of fun. The idea is to make it relatively soon and sell it
right before Christmas break. Tim is
coordinating this event adn you can contact
him with any questions. We also would like to do a bake sale and perhaps
a hot chocolate sale and a hotdog
sale. This money goes to fund the
science demonstrations and to fund scholarships in the spring.
