First Meeting of the Semester
We gathered in UH 237 at 5:15 as usual for the first meeting of the semester.  Turnout was very good with about 25 people in attendence.

Meetings
It was decided that meetings would be held every other Monday evening at 5:15 P.M. in Upham Hall Room 237.

Officers

The newest officers introduced themselves to everyone:
              President - Jessica Weber
              Vice President - Carmella Juarez
              Secretary - Jennifer "Ferg" Strerath
              Treasurer - La Rae King
              Public Relations - Tim Paschkewitz

About the Club
Jessica Weber, our new President, discuessed what it takes to be a member of Chem Club - $5 per semester dues that can be paid to the club's treasurer,
La Rae King. as soon as possible.  Because our club is a recognized student affiliate of the American Chemical Society (ACS), we need to have at least 6 members who are active members of ACS as a student affiliate.  The Cost is ~$19, and all are encouraged to join but is not mandatory.  You can apply for membership at www.acs.org and as a member you recieve a copy of a magazine put out by the ACS.

Free Chemistry Tutoring Service

One of the services/outreach that Chem Club has done traditionally is to offer free tutoring to any student interested.  We passed around a sheet asking for               people to volunteer some time.  We will reserve a table on the second floor of Upham in the new East Wing for the tutoring.  The days and times will be
evaluated and posted by the next meeting.  Remember, this is a good opportunity to use your chemistry and also something to put on your resume.

Getting Chemistry into the Schools
We would like to go to local schools and try and encourage chemistry.  The details are still to be determined and Dr. Asala has willingly agreed to be  in charge of this outreach.  Further details will be discussed at future meetings.

Fundraising

We hold annual bake sales to try and generate income to fund activities and scholarships.  Details and futher ideas will be discussed at future meetings.

Guest Speakers

We are looking into having guest speakers from the chemistry field to come in and talk with current chemistry students.  We are trying to get Christina                       Knihtila,  last year's president and UW-W Chemistry Alumni who is currently working in a lab, to come in and speak with us.

Closing

5:30 Meeting adjourned and snacks served.
